In between job hunting, wrangling kids and doing what little freelance (I have 2 outstanding projects to complete) comes my way, I have been knitting.
Well, I should clarify that and say that I have been starting quite a few things, continuing on with others, and picking up things that have long been languishing. I've been knitting in an unfocused, just for the joy of it way and it's been good. Unfortunately my progress on any one thing hasn't been great because I haven't been devoting full attention to it. I'm putting a lot of effort into creating but not completing anything and that's left me feeling as if I've been spinning my wheels.
So I've decided on a couple of things.
- That I'll take advantage of any down time during my unemployment to finish off all my UFOs and CURRENT WIPs this year. Even if it means not starting ANYTHING new (at least not for me and Mark... well, except for the Jacquard vest for me...) for a while.
- That I will be faithful to two projects at a time — one easy one for when I have to deal with the kids and one more complicated one for the evenings — and get those finished instead of dicking around with ten projects and not making progress on any. I mean, Aden's moc-socks have been in limbo for months and those could have been done-de-done-done by now.
- I'm going to dip my toe into the designing pond and try to see if I have any talent there. I'm hoping to come up with a couple of things and make them available for free at first. Then if there is any interest, I'll sell patterns through Ravelry for a little extra cash. I'm not expecting to make much, if any, money, but I've been promising myself for years that I would make that leap. The cool thing is that since I'm a graphic designer, I've got all the resources necessary for both charting and designing pattern sheets.
- I will sew. I have a wonderful sewing machine that is gathering dust in the corner and I have tons of quilt fabric and patterns. I will sew and get better at making straight lines, etc.
And last, I will share this journey, daily, with you. Along with pics of the kids of course.
